About the GeneType™ Risk Test

The GeneType™ Risk Test combines genetic and clinical risk factors to provide an individualised assessment of risk for certain health conditions.

The results are designed to provide additional information that may support discussions with your healthcare provider about appropriate screening, risk-management and lifestyle considerations.

GeneType™ reports combine relevant genetic, clinical and family-history information to provide an individualised risk assessment. Results should be considered alongside your personal medical history and discussed with your healthcare provider.

Understanding your assessed risk may help you and your healthcare provider have more informed conversations about appropriate screening and risk-management options.

Breast Cancer – lifetime and 5-year risk assessment

The GeneType™ Breast Cancer Risk Test combines common genetic risk factors with clinical and family-history information to provide an individualised assessment of breast cancer risk.

This test assesses common genetic factors associated with breast cancer risk. It does not test for hereditary pathogenic variants such as BRCA1 or BRCA2.

The test may be appropriate for certain women who do not have a known hereditary breast cancer pathogenic variant, subject to the applicable eligibility criteria.

The assessment incorporates factors including:

  • Common genetic markers associated with breast cancer risk

  • Age

  • Family history of breast cancer

  • Body mass index

  • Breast density, where available

  • Menopausal status

The results provide an individualised risk assessment that can be discussed with your healthcare provider in the context of your personal and family history.

Depending on the assessed risk and individual circumstances, your healthcare provider may discuss options such as:

  • Appropriate breast screening

  • Mammography

  • MRI or ultrasound where clinically appropriate

  • Referral to an appropriate specialist

  • Risk-management strategies

  • Lifestyle factors including physical activity, diet, smoking and alcohol consumption

  • Other risk-management options where clinically appropriate

Important: GeneType™ does not replace recommended breast screening or hereditary genetic testing where this is clinically indicated.
